Glit: Writing Editor (“Glit”, “we”) is a writing app for web novel creators. This policy explains how your data is handled in all versions of the app (macOS, Windows, iPhone, iPad, and Android) and on this website.

The app collects nothing

Glit runs no servers and collects no personal information. There is no analytics, advertising, or tracking in the app, and no account is required. This website counts visits — see below.

Your files stay yours

Everything you create is stored locally on your device as plain files you control.

Cloud is optional

Glit works fully offline. Cloud sync is entirely your choice and uses the provider's own secure sign-in.

No data collected by the app

We do not operate our own servers and do not collect, store, or share any personal information. Glit contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking software. No account or registration is required to use the app.

Your files are stored on your device

All projects and files you create or edit are stored locally on your device.

On Android, the app’s own settings (such as theme and editor preferences) may be included in your device’s backup to your Google account. Your cloud sign-in tokens and your purchase status are excluded from that backup.

Cloud storage (optional)

Glit never requires cloud storage and works fully offline. If you choose to use it, how it works depends on your platform:

On macOS and Windows: You sync your work by installing the cloud provider’s own desktop app (such as Dropbox, or OneDrive), which creates a synced folder on your computer. Glit simply opens and saves files in that folder like any other local folder. Glit itself does not connect to the cloud service or access your account.

On iPhone and iPad: Glit connects directly to Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive through their official APIs to sync the files you choose. You sign in through the service’s secure OAuth flow; your authorization tokens are stored securely on your device and are never sent to us. New Dropbox connections can see only the Glit app folder inside Dropbox. Google Drive can no longer be connected; projects already connected to it keep syncing, and Glit accesses only the files in those projects. Glit never accesses your account password.

On Android: Glit connects directly to Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive through their official APIs to sync the files you choose. You sign in through the service’s secure OAuth flow; your authorization tokens are stored encrypted on your device and are never sent to us. Glit reads and writes only inside the folder you select, and never accesses your account password. Google Drive sync is not available in the Android version at this time.

Third-party services

When you use a cloud service (on any platform), that service is governed by its own privacy policy:

Glit’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Purchases

How you pay depends on the platform:

  • macOS and Windows: a single one-time purchase unlocks the full app.
  • iPhone, iPad and Android: free to start with one work project; an optional one-time in-app purchase (Glit Pro) removes that limit. Notes, folders and cloud sync are always free.

There is no subscription. Purchases are handled by the store you installed the app from — the Mac App Store, the Microsoft Store, the App Store, or Google Play. We never receive your payment details. The app keeps only whether the purchase is active, stored locally on your device and confirmed with the store; that record is not shared with us or anyone else.

Website analytics

This section covers this website only. The Glit app itself still collects nothing.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit glit.app, which pages and languages they read, and which sites link here. It is deliberately a privacy-preserving alternative to the usual analytics tools:

  • No cookies. Nothing is stored on your device and you are given no persistent identifier. That is why this site shows you no cookie banner.
  • Collected: the page you viewed, the site that linked you here, your country, your device, browser and operating system, and how quickly the page loaded.
  • Not collected: your name, your email address, anything you write in the app, or the query string of the address you arrived on.
  • How visits are counted: Cloudflare derives a one-off value from your IP address, browser and request headers, hashes it, and discards it. Your IP address is never stored.
  • Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, Art. 6(1)(f). The data is processed by Cloudflare, Inc. in the United States.
  • Opting out: any content or tracker blocker stops the beacon, and the site works exactly the same without it.

Your rights

Where we process personal data, you may request access to it, correction, erasure or restriction, and you may object to the processing. Write to kr.johng@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Children’s privacy

Glit is not directed to children. The app collects nothing at all, and the website analytics described above identifies no one individually.
