Overview

Version 1.1.0 lets you move a project between your device and the cloud — in both directions — plus a handful of refinements across sync and editing.

What’s New

Upload to Cloud

Smaller refinements and fixes throughout.

Improvements

Windows: Title Bar Color Synced with App Theme

All windows (main, preview, Markdown, image, PDF) now use the Window Controls Overlay style, replacing the native title bar with the existing Toolbar component. System button colours (minimise, maximise, close) update immediately when the theme changes.

macOS retains its existing
hiddenInset
behaviour.

Empty Screen — [Open Folder] / [Start Web Novel] Buttons

[Start Web Novel]: launches web novel writing mode directly, with a modal that branches based on the number of existing workspaces.

Button accent colour reflects the active workspace and web novel mode state.

Full support for all 8 UI languages.

Web Novel Mode: Folder Tree Auto-Expand on Activation

Windows: Images, PDF Content, and Markdown Images Not Displayed

Images embedded in the editor, PDF viewer content, and Markdown preview images were not displayed on Windows. This is now fixed.

Replaced
net.fetch('file://')
(which fails on Windows) with
fs.readFile
.

Fixed Windows drive-letter path normalisation (leading slash removal and colon restoration).

Normalised backslashes in PDF standalone window paths.

Preserved colons in Markdown image URIs by switching from
encodeURIComponent
to
encodeURI
.

Previous version: v1.0.1

New Features

PDF Viewer

PDF files can now be opened inline in the editor and in a standalone window.

Pages are rendered sharply at any zoom level.

Zoom with the − / + buttons or
Cmd+Scroll
(macOS) /
Ctrl+Scroll
(Windows/Linux). The ⊡ button fits the page to the current window width.

Text in the PDF can be selected and copied, with accurate selection highlights at any zoom level.

An ↗ button opens the PDF in a standalone window with a custom toolbar (file name, zoom controls).

PDF files display an extension badge in the sidebar and can be copied/pasted via the clipboard.

PDF files are opened securely: scripts embedded in PDFs are disabled and external resource loading is blocked.

Markdown Front Matter — Parsing and Visualization

YAML front matter at the top of
.md
files is now parsed and visualized.

Front matter blocks surrounded by
---
delimiters are recognized and parsed.

The front matter block is hidden from the preview, standalone window, and sub-sidebar — only the main content is displayed.

In the editor, the front matter region is visually highlighted, with keys and values color-coded to match the active theme.

The highlight updates automatically when the font size or line spacing changes.

Markdown Preview — Click Image to Open in Image Viewer

Hovering over an image in the Markdown preview now shows an “↗ Open in New Window” overlay button. Clicking it opens the image in the standalone image viewer window.

Text Files: Extension-Agnostic Copy/Paste and Editing

Files are now identified as text or binary by their content rather than by their extension. Files with unusual or missing extensions are opened in the editor and included in copy/paste operations as long as they contain no binary data.

Close Related Windows When Workspace Is Closed

Clicking the × button on a workspace in the sidebar now closes all associated image, Markdown preview, and PDF windows that were opened from files within that workspace.

External Drag-and-Drop: Folders and All Supported File Types

Dragging items onto the app previously only accepted image files. It now supports folders and all other supported file types (
.txt
,
.md
,
.pdf
, etc.), consistent with the clipboard paste behaviour.

Clipboard Copy of External Files into Workspace

Files from outside a workspace can now be copied into it via the clipboard (
Cmd/Ctrl+C
→
Cmd/Ctrl+V
). Name conflicts are resolved with an automatic numeric suffix.

Settings — Language Selector with Theme-aware Dropdown

The language selector in Settings now uses a custom dropdown that matches all four themes. It closes on outside click or Escape, and the selected language is highlighted with the accent color.

Trash (Recycle Bin)

Deleted files and folders from the sidebar are now moved to a trash folder instead of being permanently deleted immediately.

Deleted items are saved in a dedicated trash folder in the app’s data directory, along with their original location and deletion time.

Settings → Trash tab: items are grouped by workspace in card-style blocks, each showing the workspace name and full path on separate lines. Deletion timestamps and a file-tree preview for deleted folders are also shown.

Each trash item displays its relative path within the workspace below the file name.

Per-item Restore button and Delete button for permanent removal. A confirmation modal appears before any deletion.

On restore conflict: a popup offers Show All (restores with a
_restored
suffix, incrementing if needed) or Overwrite.

Per-workspace Empty and global Empty All buttons, each requiring confirmation. The Empty All button is highlighted with the accent color.

The trash list updates in real time when an item is deleted from the sidebar.

Full support for all 8 UI languages, with language-specific restore suffixes.

Auto Backup

While you edit text files inside a workspace, backups are now created automatically to protect your work from unexpected errors or mistakes.

Session original: Each time you save, a copy of the current content is saved to a hidden backup folder inside your workspace.

Periodic snapshots: At the configured interval, a timestamped snapshot is saved. Identical consecutive snapshots are skipped, and the oldest snapshot is removed automatically when the limit is reached.

Settings → Auto Backup section: enable/disable toggle, backup interval (default 5 min), maximum number of backups (default 10), and an optional “Auto-delete old backups” setting (off by default) with a configurable retention period (default 30 days).

Only text files inside your workspace are backed up; binary files and files outside the workspace are excluded.

The backup folder is hidden and does not appear in the sidebar.

Full support for all 8 UI languages.

Preview (DeviceView): Multiple Independent Windows

The preview (DeviceView) now supports multiple independent instances, one per episode.

Right-clicking an episode in the sidebar now shows an “Open Preview” context menu item. Different episodes open in separate windows; clicking the same episode again focuses the existing window instead of opening a duplicate.

The toolbar Preview button and WnReview panel preview button share one window per file, regardless of how the preview was opened.

A Preview button has been added to the WnReview panel.

Default font size increased from 9 px to 16 px.

Preview windows save and restore font size, device selection, and window size/position across sessions.

All preview windows close automatically when the main window closes.

Full support for all 8 UI languages.

Settings Panel Navigation: Resizable Width, Icons, and Labels

The side navigation panel in Settings can now be resized by dragging its right edge, and each tab now displays an icon alongside its label.

Drag range: 120 px minimum to 300 px maximum; the chosen width is saved automatically.

The panel width adjusts automatically to fit the longest label, ensuring correct display across all 8 UI languages.

Five navigation icons added: editor, appearance, auto backup, trash, and info.

The Info tab is anchored to the bottom of the navigation panel, separated by a divider line — matching the app’s left sidebar footer layout.

Font Size Change Causes Incorrect Editor Bottom Margin

After changing the font size or line spacing, the editor sometimes cut off the last few lines of text at the bottom. This is now fixed.

Preview Window Theme Not Synchronised in Real Time

Changing the theme while the Settings panel was open did not update preview windows immediately. This is now fixed.

Editor Options Auto-save Toggle Button Displayed Incorrectly

The auto-save toggle button in the editor options panel was displayed incorrectly, with the thumb extending outside the track. This is now fixed.

Windows: Context Menu “Show in Folder” Label

The “Show in File Explorer” context menu item displayed an incorrect label in some languages on Windows. This is now fixed.

Sidebar: Three Inline Filename Rename Bugs Fixed

Three separate bugs in the inline rename flow have been fixed:

Unsaved content loss on rename: Renaming a file with unsaved changes now saves those changes first, so no content is lost.

Silent overwrite on duplicate filename: Renaming to an existing filename now shows a red border on the input and blocks the action until a unique name is entered.

Invalid characters not blocked: Names starting with
.
or containing
/
or
\
are now rejected with the same red-border treatment.

Improvements

The sidebar resize handle hit area has been widened, making it easier to grab without changing the visual appearance. Applied consistently to both the left sidebar and the right auxiliary sidebar, across all four themes.

The settings panel header divider line is now aligned to the same height as the sidebar header, regardless of the UI text size setting.

The gear icon on the sidebar’s “Settings” button now scales proportionally when the UI text size is changed.

The UI text size slider range has been extended from 16 px to 24 px. Additional interface elements now respond to the setting: sidebar header labels and action button icons, workspace name labels and web novel mode badges, web novel mode toggle button and icons, range folder and episode title inputs, web novel info panel labels/descriptions/buttons, and collapsed sidebar folder and hover action icons.

When creating or renaming a file or folder, unsupported names (Windows reserved device names, names starting with
.
, names containing
/
or
\
, names ending with a trailing period or space, or excessively long names) are now blocked before the action is submitted, with a red-border input field and an inline error message. Supported in all 8 UI languages.

Previous version: v1.0.0

New Features

Right-side Auxiliary Sidebar (Inline Preview Panel)

A new toggle button on the right side of the toolbar opens an inline preview panel on the right edge of the app.

Markdown files are rendered with the same security policies as the existing preview (external images blocked; links open via the system browser only).

The panel width can be adjusted by dragging, and the setting is automatically saved.

The save status indicator (“Saving” / “Saved”) has moved from the toolbar button to a text label in the top-right corner of the editor for a cleaner look.

Sidebar Item Selection Highlight

Clicking a file or folder in the sidebar now shows a selection state (border outline).

The selected item (border) is visually distinct from the actively edited file (orange background), and both states can appear simultaneously.

Clicking a sidebar item transfers focus to the sidebar panel without disrupting the editor’s internal focus.

Right-click Context Menu and Copy/Paste Shortcuts

Right-clicking a sidebar item opens a context menu with the following actions:

Action

Description

New Document

Create a new file inside the selected folder

New Folder

Create a new subfolder inside the selected folder

Show in File Explorer

Reveal the item in the OS file manager

Copy

Copy the file or folder to the clipboard

Paste

Paste the copied item into the current folder (name conflicts are resolved with an automatic suffix)

Rename

Rename the item inline

Delete

Delete the item

Keyboard shortcuts:
Ctrl+C
/
Ctrl+V

When a sidebar item is clicked, focus shifts to the aside panel so clipboard shortcuts do not conflict with editor paste operations.

Global UI Font Size Setting

The UI font size configured in Settings is now applied consistently across all components — sidebar, editor, search bar, toolbar, and settings panel. Previously, several areas used hardcoded sizes that ignored the setting.

World-building Folder File Move, Sort Improvements, and Image Badges

Dragging items within the world-building folder now correctly triggers filesystem moves.

Image files (
.png
,
.jpg
, etc.) in the sidebar now display an extension badge.

Drag-to-reorder within world-building folders works correctly.

File Info Panel in the Right Sidebar

A new File Info toggle in the right-side auxiliary sidebar displays detailed metadata for the currently open file.

Shows: file name, workspace, format, file size, character count (with and without spaces), creation time, last modified time, and full path.

File size updates automatically whenever the file is saved.

In Web Novel mode during the Completed Manuscripts batch view, the panel switches automatically to an aggregate stats view showing episode count and total character counts. A “Details” toggle expands a per-episode character count breakdown.

Edit Options Panel — Correction Tools (Web Novel Mode)

Three correction sections are now available in the Edit Options panel when Web Novel mode is active.

Quote Correction

Action

Description

Curly → Straight

Converts curly/smart quotes to straight ASCII quotes

Straight → Curly

Converts straight ASCII quotes to curly quotes

Dialogue Style

Normalises dialogue formatting

Punctuation Correction (Korean only)

Action

Description

Period → Middle Dot

Replaces
...
ellipses with the
···
middle-dot style

Indent Correction

Action

Description

Paragraph Indent

Normalises leading whitespace at the start of each paragraph to a single space

While a correction is running, the editor is covered by a non-interactive overlay to prevent accidental edits. Each button shows a progress indicator (
···
) during processing and a brief confirmation highlight on completion.

Bug Fixes

File Rename Leaves Editor State Stale — Saves to Wrong Path

When a file was renamed in the sidebar while open in the editor,
currentFile.path
and the
draftBuffer
key were not updated. This caused subsequent saves to create a new file at the old (deleted) path. The editor state is now updated immediately on rename.

Episode Read-only State Not Reflected Immediately

Changing an episode’s status to “Complete” inside a range folder did not switch the open editor to read-only mode until the file was reopened. The
currentFile.isEpisodeDone
flag is now updated in real time.

Text Search Results Not Cleared When Closing a Workspace

Search results from a previous workspace persisted on screen after the workspace was closed. Results are now cleared on workspace close.

Multilingual Initial-load Flash and Language-change Bug

A brief flash of the wrong language at startup has been eliminated. The locale is now loaded synchronously in the preload phase so the correct language is shown from the very first render.

Switching languages in Settings no longer leaves parts of the UI in the previous language.

Some languages were missing from the Settings language dropdown; the list now includes all available locales.

Range Folder Reorganization Deletes Leading Episodes

When a range was shrunk, episodes that fell outside the front boundary of the new range were incorrectly deleted from the list. This is now fixed. A related NFC normalization issue (Korean filenames returned as NFD by Google Drive) that caused reorganization to fail is also resolved.

Drag-and-drop Restricted to Prevent Folder Contamination

Dragging items from outside into the Draft or Completed Manuscript folders is now blocked. This prevents accidental file placement in managed folders.

Quote Correction Preview Shows Wrong Characters

In the Edit Options panel (Web Novel mode), both the Curly → Straight and Straight → Curly items in the Quote Correction section displayed the same characters on both sides of the arrow, making the two options visually indistinguishable. The result side of each example now correctly shows straight ASCII quotes and curly quotes respectively.

Improvements

The character count is now shown in the top bar of read-only editors, and the bar layout has been improved (“Read Only” centered; character count and preview button right-aligned).

The total character count is now displayed at the top of the Completed Manuscripts batch view.

After a drag-move operation,
draftBuffer
internal paths are updated correctly so subsequent saves go to the right location.

Internal Changes

Removed unnecessary
console.error
debug log statements.

Removed dead code and redundant IPC calls from the multilingual system.

Added
.claude/settings.local.json
to
.gitignore
.

Removed the GitHub releases-based self-update checker (automatic banner and manual check button). Windows is distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store; updates are handled automatically by the store.

Added MSIX (
.appx
) build target for Microsoft Store distribution.

Added custom tile images (
assets/appx/
) for Microsoft Store certification.

Show in Finder

Reveal the item in the OS file manager

Copy

Copy the file or folder to the clipboard

Paste

Paste the copied item into the current folder (name conflicts are resolved with an automatic suffix)

Rename

Rename the item inline

Delete

Delete the item

Keyboard shortcuts:
Cmd+C
/
Cmd+V

Added
.claude/settings.local.json
to
.gitignore
.

Removed the GitHub releases-based self-update checker (automatic banner and manual check button). macOS is distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store; updates are handled automatically by the store.

Release date: April 2026
First public release

Overview

Glit is a desktop writing app built for long-form fiction — in particular web novels. It runs natively on macOS and Windows via Electron and stores all files directly on the local filesystem.

Core Features

Web Novel Writing Mode

A dedicated mode for managing serialised fiction with a structured folder hierarchy.

Draft folder holds in-progress episodes; Completed Manuscripts folder holds finished ones.

Range folders group episodes into numbered arcs (e.g. 1–50, 51–100) and are managed automatically — episodes are assigned to the correct range as they are created.

Completed Manuscripts batch view displays all finished episodes in a single scrollable list with per-episode and total character counts.

Episode status (in-progress / complete) can be toggled; completed episodes open in read-only mode.

World-building folder stores reference documents (character profiles, setting notes, etc.) alongside the manuscript.

Multi-workspace Support

Multiple independent workspaces can be open at the same time. Each workspace maps to a folder on disk and appears as a separate entry in the sidebar.

Editor

Plain-text editor with configurable font size and line spacing.

Auto-resizing textarea — the editor grows with the content; no fixed viewport height.

Find & Replace bar with match highlighting and result list.

Unsaved-changes confirmation dialog on file close or workspace switch.

Multi-window Support

Files can be opened in additional floating windows — useful for referencing notes while writing in the main window.

Image Inline Preview

Image files (
.png
,
.jpg
,
.gif
,
.webp
, etc.) open directly in the editor pane as an inline preview with zoom controls (− / + buttons and
Cmd/Ctrl+Scroll
).

Markdown Preview Window

.md
files can be opened in a standalone preview window that renders Markdown with full security sandboxing — external images are blocked and links open in the system browser.

Multi-language Support

The UI is fully localised in 8 languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, German, French, Spanish, and Italian. The language is detected automatically from the OS locale on first launch and can be changed in Settings.

Themes

Four built-in colour themes: Light, Dark, Sepia, and Dark Sepia. Themes apply consistently across the main window and all secondary windows.

Settings

Editor — font size, line spacing, auto-save toggle.

Appearance — theme selection, UI font size.

macOS Support

Native build for macOS (Mac App Store). Uses the appropriate window chrome and keyboard conventions for the platform.
